The Burberry Holiday 2018 collection is a collaboration with artist and photographer Juno Calypso that exposes the dance between the reality and fantasy of a very British Christmas. Juno draws on her own festive experiences and rituals; from the unpredictable British weather, to family togetherness, delayed trains to festive feasts.
“I wanted to portray a more realistic British Christmas, but still shot through a fantasy lens,” she said. “The campaign takes you through all the key seasonal rituals, both good and bad. That’s what brings us together.”
The collection highlights Burberry’s inclination for combining sophisticated garments with dazzling accessories, with the stars wearing the quintessential Burberry trench coat paired with gold, drop earrings.
The campaign contrasts with the brand’s 2016 festive film, which told the story of founder Thomas Burberry, his development of the brand and his relationship with his wife. While both adverts touch upon similar themes of love and family, Burberry’s latest campaign is markedly more sinister, with the rendition of “Carol of the Bells” playing throughout.
