For the Monique Lhuillier Fall 2019 Bridal collection, the designer materializes a surreal fairytale in a sophisticated lineup of show-stopping gowns. Signature silhouettes are embellished with elaborate and colorful florals in an impressionist palette of sunset, peony and rose gold.
Lhuillier was inspired by her dreams, her love of color, and the allure of gardens. As such, flowers are a dominant motif, appearing on a V-neck tulle gown with vibrant floral appliqués and a voluminous ball gown and veil scattered with florets, so a bride “would look like she’s lying in a flower bed.”
Floral printed organza and tulle give a sensual feel, while metallic, three-dimensional and jeweled elements add an innovative touch. Capes, jackets and streamers in bold floral laces add an heirloom feel to the collection. Volume in skirts is exaggerated with cathedral-length trains.
Lhuillier’s designs rival an impressionist’s hand thanks to custom-developed fabrics that bring her visions to life. A floral-printed silk organza is fashioned into a soft ball gown, then paired with a matching floral-printed veil for a 3-D effect. Traditional lace is embroidered over metallic lace on a modified A-line gown, and Lhuillier sprinkles a rose-gold gown with minuscule seed beading. On another illusion long-sleeved gown, she strategically places exaggerated stones so they sparkle from across the room.
“The bride can also take down her hair after she removes the jacket to further transform her look,” she added. “My brides are ready for something different,” she said. “They want something that they haven’t seen before.”
