The designer always features a trace of the 1970’s in his work and the Tom Ford Fall 2020 RTW collection was no different with relaxed, sensual and somewhat a louche kind of luxury. A kind of luxe and sensual minimalism.

Things are constantly recycled but are seen in a fresh way through the eyes of the next generation, which makes them different and causes fashion to evolve.

Extravagant pieces were treated in a more casual way, often paired with sweatshirts or tee shirts. Pants were wider and softer, heels were thicker and sculpted to help to create a longer and leaner silhouette. Everything is a play in volume. Denim was distressed, cut apart and reassembled, and worn as fashion pieces and not just as “jeans”. Re-assembled military looks in khaki and loden as well as cut up traditional fabrics like Prince of Wales plaids, were used for tailored jackets, skirts and pants. Hemlines were longer but uneven.

Evening for the designer however remained classic and pure. No tricks but just beautiful evening clothes, and perhaps Ford was feeling particularly romantic this season as for the first time he ended a show with a bride. Fresh and hopeful.

The beauty look that Tom Ford sent down the runway for Fall 2020 epitomized his philosophy of the face. On a canvas of flawless skin, light and shadow sculpt the features and create symmetric definition. A glossy nude lip trains the focus on the eye and completes the unapologetic and utterly sensual multi-dimensional effect. The result is that each woman’s features are enhanced, bringing out her singular beauty.
