Chanel has opened a new boutique in the heart of Toronto’s culturally historic Yorkville neighbourhood. The impeccable interior design was conceived by architect Peter Marino, spans two floors and 600 square metres, within an original façade dating from the 1930’s.
Presented in an environment of bespoke artwork and furnishings, Chanel’s iconic colours of black, white and gold are used throughout the boutique for high levels of contrast, along with elements inspired by the Coromandel screens of Mademoiselle Chanel’s Parisian apartment.
Upon entering the boutique, clients are immersed into a gallery space, which features an astonishing rock crystal and polished bronze Goossens chandelier. This gallery transitions into the four salons on the main floor; to the right the first space is dedicated to costume jewellery together with a selection of handbags. Further along, the second salon is dedicated solely to shoes: the space is embellished with a brass ‘Raindrops’ wall mirror by Curtis Jere and an engraved brass and bronze table by Michael Pohu. A third salon is devoted to a range of eyewear, small leather goods and other accessories like scarves. Lastly, the fourth salon showcases a selection of bags including Chanel’s Gabrielle bag Cruise novelties and the BOY CHANEL handbag as well as Watches and Fine Jewellery.
A white stairwell spanning the main and upper floor features a commissioned art piece by Jean-Michel Othoniel, known for his longstanding collaboration with the House of Chanel: an impressive white and gold beaded 3-D pearl necklace that lightly cascades though the staircase, descending eight metres. The installation is visible from both the ground and upper floors.
Designed as an elegant and sophisticated townhouse, this new boutique showcases Chanel’s creativity ensuring a continued and unforgettable shopping experience in Toronto.
