Like an adventure story, the high jewelry collection Treasure Island by Van Cleef & Arpels brings landscapes and treasures from across the world together, in a journey in three parts.
In the first chapter, the Maison takes the helm and draws inspiration from sailor’s knots, along with a variety of instruments that reflect the art of navigation. The ocean is celebrated in a surge of blues: a gradation from turquoise to emerald green, the sun’s reflections in the heat of the afternoon, or the reflection of moonlight in still waters.
The second chapter is a homage to nature, a cherished theme for Van Cleef & Arpels. Here it is depicted in all its luxuriance and diversity: seashells in a rainbow of hues, delicate flowers, and majestic trees in multiple shades.
Lastly, the third and final chapter tells the story of a veritable treasure hunt across the world—from pre-Colombian splendors to the marvels of Asia—bringing to life creations inspired by faraway horizons. With its detachable motifs, the Palmier Mystérieux clip symbolizes these three chapters. A boat of diamonds, a sun and a chest of precious stones —all of them adorned with yellow gold— can be interchanged on its setting, which is adorned with a broad-leaved palm tree.
The Traditional Mystery Set—a signature Van Cleef & Arpels technique, patented in 1933 and enabling gems to be set while the underlying metal remains invisible— here uses emeralds to endow the treetop with a velvety green surface, while its trunk is made of sculpted rose gold. The virtuosity of the Maison’s craftsmen can be admired in the work on gold, which is in turn polished, hammered, gadrooned and worked into glittering golden beads.
