The Proenza Schouler Resort 2024 focuses on the Proenza Schouler woman foremost and evolves the brand codes of making luxury fashion for the intelligent, adult, urban woman of today.
Tailoring is relaxed and easy, never structured or too demanding and cut from rich grey wool mélange and worn over open silk marocaine shirts which in turn are layered over fine, diaphanous knits. Wool twill blazers are long and generous enough to serve as outerwear and worn with matching paneled skirts that sway and open in motion. Matte viscose crepe dresses are cut against sheen leather to create textural contrast while matching in color. New, sportier, utilitarian shapes such as bombers are convertible and luxe with detachable shearling collars and worn over suits to cut formality and serve as a new overcoat proposition.
Knitwear continues to be important and reimagines last season’s leather gowns when cut into machine-engineered columns of bright, pure color such as cobalt and red. Knitwear is also combined with pleated, sheer jersey in a pair of dresses where the knit acts as a modern-day corset that cinches the body and creates shape while allowing the jersey to spill into soft folds above and underneath. Knit, cashmere polos round out the more utilitarian end of the knitwear spectrum.
Leather continues to be key and is cut into an array of classic waistless jeans, a gathered strapless top, wrap skirts, and one light khaki off the shoulder dress. A pair of collaged chiffon dresses are adorned with artisanal hand -forged sequin swatches calling to mind elements of the designer’s point of reference, namely the mid-century American Dia artists. Clean, sharp, minimal, and intelligent, these are wardrobe staples meant to help simplify and enhance a woman’s full life.
