The inspiration for Diptyque‘s limited collection takes on the form of poetic celebration of the light, beauty and natural world of the Mediterranean, where two founding members, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet grew fond of and regularly visited to rest and recharge from 1960 onwards. The Dyptique Summer Essentials collection highlights the emblematic Mediterranean scents where they found their “landscape of the soul”, reminiscent of the beautiful Italy, Provence and Greece.

Summer Essentials also dons the art of young French artist, Matthieu Cossé, who was invited to create drawings visualizing the summer collection. With a love for sun-kissed landscapes, his notable artistic traits include his love for colour, fondness for gouache and watercolor techniques very much aligned with diptyque’s celebration of the simple and essential qualities of nature.

Main inspirations of this collection, both in smell and visual, come from the sun (the Ilio eau de toilette and hair mist takes its name from the Greek word for sun, “Ilios”), florals and herbs reminiscent of the beautiful sea coast.
