For the Marc Jacobs Spring 2022 RTW collection, the designer created a lineup following a thread of reconstruction and simplicity; the presence of sweeping silhouettes and gothic motifs set to the bare—nearly sterile—backdrop creates a dramatic and elegant effect, one that is signature to Jacobs.

Cargo pants are cut up and remade into skirts. Jacobs’s new monogram is shredded into fringe that spiderwebbed around torsos and trailed along the floor. Plastic paillettes, worn by Meryl Streep on the red carpet, are strung into belly chains and adornments.

This interstitial collection is not intended to introduce new ideas but rather to further the message lurking in Jacobs’s mind of late: one of looming, semi-threatening models with a postapocalyptic edge.
