For the Tod’s Resort 2022 collection, Creative Director Walter Chiapponi warped Tod’s classic lexicon, upgrading sporty wardrobe archetypes to a more eccentric, fashionable status. A roomy drawstring parka was slung low on the hips to accentuate a cocooning shape; XXL skater’s bermudas and boyish five-pocket flares were made in chic techno moiré; hyper-feminine ruffles were added as a peplum at the waist of a slim-fitting anorak or at the back of a masculine shirt.
On the artisanal front, the collection featured an oversized knitted jumper shrunken and remodeled to a form-fitting shape through crocheted cross-stitching, handmade with glazed shoestrings. Introducing a ’70s flavor, the thick striped textures of Berber carpets inspired elongated fringed cardis and ponchos, worn over slim cotton pants or shorts. “It’s a sort of rough hybridization experiment between couture and sportswear,” said the designer.
