Debuting alongside the arrival of the Paco Rabanne Fall 2019 collections, the film introduces a new medium of artistic expression to the Maison’s universe.

As a contemporary echo of the French New Wave movement, Gianelli-Meriano captures a powerful aura between four dynamic girls: Nora Attal, Nilaya Bal, Fishbach and Christa Theret. Leaving Paris for the Château de Millemont in the French countryside, they spend a weekend channeling mystic forces and discovering a togetherness that transcends time. Throughout the two-minute film, as well as in the shorter extracts, the feeling is one of inner and outer self, where imagination and reality coalesce.

Dressed in looks from both the Pre-Fall and Fall-Winter collections, the girls capture Julien Dossena’s eclectic sense of glamour—Parisian bourgeois codes merging with grunge, cowboy, bohemian, and dandy references. Styling by Marie-Amelie Sauvé and cinematography by Martin de Chabaneix give the day and nighttime scenes a distinct aesthetic, reinforcing the Paco Rabanne vision as a seamless progression through the seasons.

A floral-printed formality comes through in Nilaya’s ankle-length velvet skirt and jersey dress; while Christa’s vibe leans more rock baroque in a leopard print jacket, iridescent pink sequin vest and tailored printed velvet trousers. Nora’s dark twist on elegant consists of short satin top with fluid sleeves and an ankle-length skirt studded with strass. Fishbach, meanwhile, stands out in a night garden motif velvet jacket, an embroidered Western shirt and cigarette pants trimmed in gold. With dusk settling on the chateau, the four girls reappear in variations on the metal mesh and pastille assemblage dresses that are mainstays at Paco Rabanne. Whereas the decorative patterned metal mesh worn by Christa gives a vintage vibe; Nora stands out for her sleek pairing of dotted velvet and pastilles; and Nilaya glows in a draped gold dress overtop a zebra-printed skirt.

“Apparition: The action of coming into being, to manifest one’s presence, to become visible,” says Theret, who provides the voice-over in the film. By the final scene, each Paco Rabanne muse has tapped into her own individual energy beyond actress or model, and their shared story concludes with a surrealist impression of the unknown.
