Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director of the Maison Valentino designs a new collection for Moncler

Pierpaolo Piccioli breaks and rewrites rules for the Moncler 1 collection in partnership with Liya Kebede in an unique vision for the new Moncler Genius Collection.

“I am after a balance of dreaminess, extravagance and soulfulness. I involved Liya Kebede, who is an active supporter of African artisans with her label lemlem, in the process, creating something true to her, to Moncler and to my own sensibility. Connecting diversities is my idea of inclusive creativity”.

This collection saw Valentino’s often smoking and always interesting creative director apply a collaboration to a collaboration. Liya Kebede  put her input on the patterns and aesthetic of her sustainable and socially responsible Ethiopian label Lemlem to his couture interpretation of Moncler.

The looks had the same voluptuous volume of his first presentation for Genius, but here they were interrupted by the graphic vibrancy of Lemlem’s contribution.

Piccioli said: “I love the idea of celebrating craft and giving these women the opportunity to work. I wanted to re-create the Lemlem fabrics in nylon. I think that if you talk about something like this—a new perspective—it is very good.”
