Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia presented an Oscar de la Renta Resort 2019 collection featuring pastel hues with Wedgwood-esque white floral embroidery with ladylike and pretty touches.

Kim and Garcia have honed their approach with the suit jackets paired not with pants but walking shorts—shorts being the purview of the young. Backstage they pointed out another novelty: the abundance of soft dresses.

“We haven’t done a lot of them so far, but girls want softer clothes,” Kim said. This holds true for night, as well as day. The evening dresses had an unmistakable ease and there wasn’t a gown (in the long-to-the-floor, formal sense of the word) in the bunch. A billowy skirted dress with a raw dip-dyed hem could even almost qualify as edgy.
