The Wang Squad hits the streets for the Alexander Wang Spring 2017 campaign entitled “Beyond Reality.”
“It’s about observing and toying with our society’s current obsession with social media,” he said. “We wanted to propose both real and fabricated narratives in order to create doubt, whether what you see is real or not, or maybe even something in between. The original spark came from scrolling through my own feed; that feeling that makes you stop or second-guess something. I embrace this obsession just as much as anyone else. The fact that the campaign is only released through social media, but is also a commentary on it, blurs the line even more.”
The campaign, photographed by Inez and Vinoodh, blurs the lines between fantasy and reality and features a slew of top models and entertainment personalities. Next to Lil’ Yachty and R. Kelly, the campaign features models Anna Ewers, Lexi Boling and Binx Walton. The crowd is pictured at an intimate house party and then caught on the streets of New York.
Wang said of his celebrity cast: “The campaign concept is about blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, to create speculation about what actually took place, versus something that was staged.”
Captioned with the words, ‘morning after’, the images photographed take on a laid-back vibe. The girls wear shorts and crop tops in the candid series.
