A celebration of quintessentially British culture, the Gucci Resort 2017 ad campaign is set in Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Lensed by photographer Glen Luchford, the images capture young characters together with acclaimed English actress Vanessa Redgrave, inside the home’s ornate rooms and grounds surrounded by geese, horses and dogs; their punk attitudes juxtaposed against the grandiose, stately surroundings.
As doyenne of the Redgrave dynasty—and one of the world’s most acclaimed performers ever—Redgrave already has an Academy Award, Olivier, and Tony sitting at home, so there wasn’t any doubt that she could pull off the part of “Gucci girl.” Still, her presence in the Glen Luchford–lensed images is exactly the kind of unexpected campaign season surprise that keeps things interesting.
Set to the tunes of The Undertones’ ‘My Perfect Cousin’, the actress and models are captured around the expansive estate, riding horses, running with geese and playing on swings. Redgrave is an elegant presence in the florals, stripes, and patches that have come to signify the Gucci look. Given that the Resort collection was shown in London, and inspired by its counterculture, the choice of Redgrave as campaign muse explores the elegance in traditional formats.
