The Marc Jacobs Spring 2017 collection was presented at the Hammerstein Ballroom on the last day of New York Fashion Week with a luminescent stage with varying lengths of hanging light bulbs decorating the runway.
The raver-like collection drew on Marc Jacobs signatures while adding new, colorful elements into Jacobs’s oeuvre with reference to club kids straight out of a Deee Lite video. The collection nodded to several different styles including military, school girl, and club kid. The connecting thread was a playful femininity. The clothes were a Lisa Frank explosion featuring shiny metallic hot pants and leggings, thigh-high rainbow socks, oversized hoodies with stripes and patches, sheer baby-doll dresses. When it came to the shoes, Marc picked up right were his fall line left off with towering platforms in candy colors.
The lineup of models was a who’s who of the industry’s biggest faces right now including Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, Taylor Hill, Jourdan Dunn, Adriana Lima, Irina Shayk, and sisters Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid. They strutted down the runway in multicolored wool dreadlocks piled up high, inspired by Marc Jacobs campaign star Lana Wachowski. They sported shimmering eye shadow—the perfect complement to the abundance of sparkle, shine, and embellishment found throughout the clothes.
