What better venue than an iconic independent record store in Hollywood to showcase the Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2016 collection of ’70s-inspired designs. The shop remained intact with its endless rows of CDs, records, and DVDs Guests such as music powerhouses Ringo Starr, Anthony Kiedis, Dave Grohl, Beck, Kim Gordon, and Mary J. Blige seemed completely at ease in the music store’s space, and they mingled with other familiar faces in the crowd, among them Kate Hudson, Amber Heard, Chelsea Handler, and Katy Perry. Live performances by an eclectic lineup of musicians included Dhani Harrison, Pink, Brian Wilson, Johnny Depp, and Marilyn Manson. Wilson played the Beach Boys hits “California Girls,” “Good Vibrations,” and “Surfin’ USA,” only to be followed by a surprise performance by Depp and Manson, who took the stage together to open with “The Dope Show.” Meanwhile, David Bowie’s songs echoed from the store’s speakers throughout the evening.

The collection had “a slight eclectic feel” with a group of animal-pattern coats in McCartney’s “fur-free fur” including an oversize ocelot-print bomber and short-pile faux-leopard coat piped with fluffy panels telegraphed rock ’n’ roll. The feline theme with a hand-illustrated cat portrait print.

There was a dramatic new versions of McCartney’s standby cable-knit sweaters; flouncy asymmetrical separates in striped and spotted silks; and spiral-cut eyelet dresses slashed with diagonal zippers. A voluminous tulle overdress in bright persimmon was layered atop a vintage-lingerie-inspired tank and floral jacquard trousers.
