The Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2014 collection is the embodiment of the designers’ very own fairy tale. Each model represents one of the characters which populate the imaginary tale of the Fall 2014 collection.

The return of the billowing chiffon gowns were highly acclaimed, a romantic throwback to the darker undertones of the Dolce & Gabbana fairy tale. Classic stylistic codes like black suits or hourglass enhancing shift dresses broke up a visually filling collection.

The entire fantasy world which Dolce & Gabbana created is set in medieval times, with symbols like keys and keyholes representing gates behind which the enchanted forest is jealously guarded. The warrior like looks consisting of tunics, highly decorated thigh high boots and some incredibly embroidered balaclavas acted like the guards to this fantasy world.

The top heavy silhouette, with strong shoulders which has enchanted the Milanese runways  this season is strong in the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2014 collection, being present on capes, tunics and coats. There is a strong emphasis on tailoring, and luxurious details with the brand’s signature mix and match being interpreted in terms of outer layers and inner layers. The combinations were endless, from cashmere lined with lace brocade with wool, sequins with fur and so on.

Embroidered gloves, boots, balaclavas, clutch bags, wooden purses embroidered shoes, crystal headpieces were the hardware of the collection, juxtaposing the lack of traditional jewellery. The protagonist of the collection though in terms of accessories were the alpaca, fox and min fur snoods, with a vaguely pointy silhouette that remanded to traditional iconography of little red riding hood and fairies with their pointy headgear.

The glittering finale stood to represent delicate fireflies which light the atmosphere of the enchanted forest leaving a lasting impression of the ethereal and somewhat haunting setting.
