For the Ralph Lauren Fall 2022 RTW season, the designer renewed this two-sided approach to design with a collection that was as classic as it was cool. Although the show was held at the world-renowned Museum of Modern Art in New York City and was nonetheless a true, unadulterated exercise in timeless American luxury.
In his first live runway in two and a half years, Ralph Lauren highlighted New York producing a 61-look show that had all of the class and charm of its home city. This was perhaps most evident with the collection’s opening looks, which were comprised of a series of black and white suiting ensembles. With clean lines and impeccable tailoring, the garments paid homage to the ever-present importance of corporate workwear and the city’s position as the financial capital of the world.
Soon after, bold pops of red were featured, typically in the form of plaids and tartans. These vibrant prints, which appeared on structured blazers and coats, seemed to reference the 1980s or, rather, the height of the city’s financial and cultural prowess. Following this focus on suiting, several Fair Isle-printed sweaters emerged in red, black, and white.
The collection then closed with a series of glamorous gowns and tuxedos. With simple, yet elegant silhouettes, these pieces looked ready and ideal for any post-pandemic black-tie function that one may have in the not too distant future. Further, they also reminded viewers of New York’s longstanding and eternal place as one of the world’s most chic, enchanting, and irresistible cities in the whole world.
