In the Chanel Fall 2020 Candeur et Expérience: Acte II makeup collection, Global and Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica plays with different ideas of character and femininity mainly through the medium of the color most associated with the gender: pink.
“I wanted to look at the idea of femininity through color, from the sensuous to fake innocence,” said Pica.
This collection takes as its starting point Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow palette Candeur et Expérience, from Le Rouge · Collection N°1 of Fall 2016. Wanting to explore the connotations, concepts and meanings behind the palette further, Lucia Pica builds a whole collection expanding on the themes of this product. From the dewy ingénue pink of the Baume Essentiel Rosée, to the stark dualities of light and dark femininity in Le Vernis, the recurring passage from innocence to experience is evoked.
A second-skin lip color of Rouge Allure Ink Fusion, finds warm form in the deep red-brown of Idyllique, its ultra-matte nature staining the skin like a rich, red wine. The inimitable Rouge Coco functions as a duality in peach-caramel Adrienne and blood-chocolate Attraction. Rouge Coco Flash finds a unity in the youthful, vibrant high-shine of Flushed and Lust, revealing the two to be somewhat unjaded and untouched, like first love in lipstick form.
The color pink: the passion and power of red softened by the purity, openness and completeness of white. For the Candeur et Expérience: Acte II collection, Lucia Pica embraces this clichéd color of femininity, both exploring and exploding its connotations.
