HERMÈS BEAUTY DEBUT LIPSTICK LINE DESIGNED BY PIERRE HARDY

Hermès is leaping into makeup for the first time in its 183-year history.

After 183 years the French brand are releasing a line of lipsticks called Rouge Hermès, in 24 shades in two different finishes. The Hermès Beauty lipstick colors are drawn from an archive of 75,000 silk swatches and packaging made from the same metals it uses for handbag hardware.

Manufactured in Italy, the lipsticks will be available in two popular finishes – matte and satin. The matte formula features shades inspired by their iconic Birkin bag, with the texture supposedly imitating the soft leather, while the satin shades pay homage to their classic silk scarves. We’re already hooked.

In true Hermès style, the color-block packaging is Instagram-worthy but it is also sustainable. Made of metal and permabrass hardware , Pierre Hardy, creative director of jewelry and shoes at the brand, said he wanted the lipstick cases to be as luxe as possible in order to give them their own value.

The lipsticks look brilliantly pigmented and the formula also boasts lots of natural ingredients such as beeswax to lock in moisture and hydration, and to ensure better color payoff. A handy lip brush will also accompany the products.

Pierre Hardy, creative director of Hermès jewelry and Hermès shoes, designed the object. Bali Barret, artistic director of the women’s universe and creative director of women’s silk, contributed her vision of femininity and color, while Jérôme Touron, creative director of Hermès Beauty, transposed this vision into make-up. Finally, Christine Nagel, Director of Hermès’ olfactory creation, gave this collection its fragrance.
