For the first time in the history of the House, the legendary clear-glass bottle designed by Mademoiselle Chanel is donning a fiery cloak of red. A unique limited edition, the Chanel No. 5 Red Edition fragrance collection includes the L’EAU Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum (100 ml) in mass-dyed red glass and 55 numbered red Baccarat crystal bottles for a collector’s edition of the No. 5 Parfum (900 ml).
Designed in 1921 and adapted in 1924, the clear rectangular bottle with simple, geometric lines and a faceted stopper features a radical architecture that has become the manifesto of a modern aesthetic. The iconic design subtly evolved over the 20th and 21st centuries, maintaining a masterful balance of shape and proportion.
The designer chose this floral-aldehydic fragrance for life and considered its olfactory signature like her talisman. A reflection of her passionate soul, red conveys her unwavering love for her trade, the arts, and the men who marked her life. A color that holds nothing back, the promise of commitment and self-assertion, it incarnates all the boldness, freedom and strength of a woman who forged her own destiny.
A color she explored in all its gradation, vibrancy and depth. Whether crimson, garnet or ruby, teamed with velvet, tweed or chiffon, for a suit or a cloak, red always made a monochrome statement in her fashion. Not in touches, but like a work of abstract art painted all over, like a fatal attraction that keeps the eye riveted.
A symbol of seductive power, red has always epitomized ultimate femininity. From Carole Bouquet’s suit to Nicole Kidman’s red carpet and Gisele Bündchen’s Haute Couture gown, and not to mention Little Red Riding Hood filmed by Luc Besson. A common thread of red runs through the ad campaigns for the legendary Chanel fragrance. In its new crimson glass or crystal bottle, No. 5 reveals yet another facet of the women’s fragrance archetype.
No. 5 Red Edition will be available beginning November 5th, 2018 at all CHANEL Beauty Counters.
