VIVIENNE WESTWOOD SPRING 2019 FILM CAMPAIGN

Vivienne Westwood uses playing cards as a strategy to save the world and a map for my fashion designs.

Part of the designer’s philosophy is that if we had culture instead of consumption, we would have a different ethos; and so, her reference for the Vivienne Westwood Spring 2019 collection comes from her love of Taoism and Chinese art.

The brand started with the five Taoist elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. The Chinese peony print, and the Chinese dragon – represent the lifeforce of the cosmos.

Weswtood made playing cards into giant prayer flags to give a sandwich board effect for t-shirts and little kilts an loin cloths and hand-painted them. The designer created a camouflage print for the collections to represent the fight to save the world, and punks love a fight.

The collection put emphasis on knitwear, graphics and DIY – Do it yourself! Therefore, they chose the cast of the campaing by the way they put their own looks together, as they kept Jenkin Van Zyl styled as a matador.
