For the fourth year in a row, Retrosuperfuture had the opportunity to design the exclusive and collectible eyewear collection in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Centered around a 1950s iconic motif sourced from the Foundation’s archives—a series of illustrations of pupils and eyes hand drawn by Andy Warhol during his career as a successful commercial illustrator in New York City—the Retrosuperfuture x Andy Warhol collaboration celebrates an avant-garde approach to creativity by interpreting the drawing in three-dimensional form. The fourth edition of the collaboration between the New York-based foundation and the Italian brand includes two tongue in cheek sunglasses that interpret Andy Warhol’s legacy at the intersection of art and design.

This collectible piece of eyewear has been conceived through Warhol’s legacy of work and persona.The eyewear features a piece from the foundation’s archive, a series of eyes illustrated, and encased within the lens. Characterized by its tuttolente frame, wide oval lenses and thick temples. the outer layer in rose gold lens forms the structure of the frame wrapped around a light silver layer for its printed lenses. the print on the lens is only visible from the exterior of the frame.

The first model features a well-rounded design created by layering high quality, laser shaped lenses. The second model plays with a full-metal structure, giving shape to a minimalist yet just as innovative and visually expressive piece. Each model features dedicated branded inscriptions inside the temples, as a further celebration of the genuine collaborative relationship between super and the Andy Warhol foundation for the visual arts.
