For the Christian Dior ‘I Feel Blue’ exhibit in Shanghai, the West Bund Art & Design was decked out in blue, echoing the designer’s output in the color beloved of Christian Dior himself.

Greeted by a video work projected on the building’s façade, guests were invited to take part in a genuine Dior experience, an immersive journey into the world of the House, between past and future, with blue as the common thread.

Twelve outfits by Monsieur Dior from the archives show the appeal this color of the kings of France had for him, from the navy wool Passe-Partout suit from the first collection, that of the New Look in 1947, to 1957’s Billet Doux, an afternoon dress in blue silk damask with rose motifs. A specially dedicated room contained an installation by the artist Liu Jianhua based around the Lady Dior bag. Next, the visitor discovered Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection unveiled as a hologram projection in which the models appeared in a poetic setting inspired by the collection’s prints. Lastly, a long corridor entirely decorated with traditional lanterns reinterpreted by Dior in the color of the event led guests to the soirée.

Watch the intricate preparations as Shanghai readies a commemorative exhibit focused on Christian Dior’s beloved blue hue.
