The designer who masters dressing for the red carpet, gave this season’s collection a fresh new edge. The Tadashi Shoji Fall 2016 collection showcased the brand’s sexier side as the designer dared with thigh-high slits, cutouts and embellished bodysuits with textures of sequined geometries.
As it seems, a tattoo parlor had been transformed into a dressmaking atelier.
“Tribal, tattoo, bodypainting, and henna. But [unlike a tattoo],” the designer said, “you can wear my body suit, and at night you can peel it off.”
The collection marks a transition from more formal evening wear to bodycon as Shoji’s masterful cuts and a decidedly youthful aesthetic were evident from the first moments of the North African-inflected techno that kicked off the catwalk. Velvet, lace and sequins were prominent on the runway.
The hair and makeup played a contrast as it felt very grunge and gave an edgy and contemporary aesthetic to the show.
