For the Dorothee Schumacher Spring 2016 collection, the designer’s inspiration comes from a longing for authenticity, grounding and the here and now this season. Nature spirit is the emotional mind-set, symbolized by a wild garden – an exotic paradise, in which floral prints meet natural materials like raffia and linen with raw edges act as abstract hybrids.
Tropical flowers and abstract fantasy flower hybrids are the signature print – inspired by the work of Japanese photographer Shigeo Goto. Rich, intense colors like midnight, dark berry, fresh lemon and mineral blue come together in an unconventional way.
This season’s selection of materials makes the longing for naturalness tangible. Crochet seams on leather dresses, batiste blouses and jackets add an artisanal spirit. Broderie anglaise evokes faded memories. Borrowed from the boys: striped cotton shirts are turned into casual dresses and tops. Piercing elements add an element of surprise to striped knits. Tech-organza with fringed jacquard, finished with graphic cotton ribbons, connects nature and technology. Silk patches with loral print and abstract embellishments with crystals, ribbons and metal petals applied to jackets, coats and tops provide a futuristic high-tech look.
Leather tassels and metal pins on long silk ribbons are becoming a new key styling element. Chunky summer sandals with mahogany-coloured wooden plateau soles ground the wearer but beguile at the same time with lacing details and crochet stitching. Sexy ankle lacing and sophisticated cut-outs form the most important style elemens of shoes. Belts with a vintage finish and interlacing knot details emphasise the waistline.
