The focus of The Row Pre-Fall 2015 collection was on the subdued luxury of impeccable fabrics with a refined artisanal hand and clean silhouettes. Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen put an emphasis on color with muted shades of paprika, green and yellow. Beautiful but quiet, the collection benefited from the earthy adornment of fantastic embroidered slides.
Pointing out that Pre-Fall will mark the one-year anniversary of their L.A. shop, Ashley said, “Our last Pre-Fall was dark and heavy, and it was 110 degrees when we opened the store. This season, it was important for us to explore weight and color in the right way.”
This collection of The Row was the Olsens in understated, masculine-tinged, casually luxurious mode, something they do exceptionally well. It was where an easy, slouchy, ivory linen coat, its earthiness amplified by the gleaming silver zipper fastening, is worn over a matching scuba minidress, or olive cotton and nylon is cut into a tunic worn with the Olsens’ new trouser shape, high-waisted and cropped above the ankle, with either a wide 1970s-esque flare, or as here, cut lean to the leg and with a barely perceptible kick at the hem.
