In their latest project entitled Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme, the L’Oréal-owned label called on three Paris-based designers to each create a couture makeup bag. The designers, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Alexandre Vauthier and Yiqing Yin, were tasked to create a case– figuring the iconic Lancôme rose into their design– for three of Lancôme’s key products; L’Absolu Rouge lipstick; Hypnôse Star mascara and Hypnôse Palette eye shadow.

For the collection, Jacquemus– a finalist for the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize– created a “hybrid carry pouch and evening bag.” The round case featured a bright prink waterproof cotton exterior with a blue interior and white strap.

Yin’s design is a structured geometric hard case that features an inside mirror and detachable chain. “It’s very direct; it’s very practical. I really wanted every visual element of the bag to serve a purpose and not just be a decoration,” Yin said.

Vauthier’s creation also performs double duty, functioning as a chain purse or clutch. The bag, inspired by black lacquered cosmetics packaging, features a black satin exterior and black lambskin leather on the inside.

The collection will be sold for another two months with a limited quantity of fifty bags from each designers in select stores. Jacquemus’ bags is priced at at $500 while Yin and Vauthier’s designs is priced at $1,300 each.
