Interior decorator David Hicks’ diverse and rich career was the underlying inspiration behind the Tory Burch Spring 2018 collection — leading to myriad bold and colorful trends.

“Bold. Audacious. Brilliant. David Hicks redefined interiors. His fearless and witty take on color and print, and his exquisite attention to detail, have made a lasting impression on me. For Spring/Summer 2018, we are honored to work with the legendary designer’s original scrapbooks, given to us by his son. Immeasurable thanks to Ashley Hicks for this collaboration,” said Tory Burch.

The brand played around with color and scale and mixed them in with our own takes. One of our key prints is inspired by a geo pattern he created featured in several colorways — pink, blue and brown — and printed it on everything, from swim to terrycloth polos to accessories.

Hicks was known for framing his rooms with borders to highlight special details. Tory picked up on that idea with lace borders on feminine tops and dresses. We also added it on caftans and in bold stripes.

Backstage at Burch’s show at Cooper Hewitt, the models took to hair and makeup — not to mention the rehearsal — dressed in Tory Sport’s banner track jacket, featuring a logo tape detail down the sleeves. “I love this lettering on the side,” said HoYeon Jung. “It’s this sort of detail that makes it special. That and my monogram on the front.”
