The Yves Saint Laurent Beauty ‘Before The Light’ web series explores the relation between artists and their makeup.

Music has always been part of YSL Beauté universe. But how does makeup play a part in music? That is what ‘Before The Light’ is about: sneaking backstage to see how makeup allows artists to dare transform from being a woman to a rock star. YSL Beauté presents the first season with three powerful women starting with Zoë Kravitz.

Actress and model, Zoë Kravitz is Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet’s daughter. She is the star singer of the group Lolawolf. “For me makeup is often like war painting, because going on stage is a fight to reach perfection”, she says when adding the final touch to her look: Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking.

Three film subtly plays with both colour and black & white, embraces the faces of the bold artists,and is shot by French film maker Fabien Constant. “3 cultures, 3 artists and yet one thing in common: an intimate space for the performer to apply makeup and slip into her character’s skin. With ‘Before The Light’, this is the idea I’ve tried to capture in order to stay as close as possible to each singer’s creative universe. I was so moved by the sincerity and simplicity with which they welcomed me. It was surely because we were about to tell genuine stories.”
