For the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2016 Bridal collection, Peter Copping took a pragmatic approach to his debut bridal effort — in what amounted to a gorgeous and versatile 25-piece spring collection, including a few looks for flower girls. “Basically, I just wanted to offer a really good cross-section of different types of dresses so that it could appeal to many different sorts of brides,” he said backstage of his first bridal season since assuming the creative helm at Oscar de la Renta in the Fall.

He more than met that intention with a wide range of silhouettes, from playful tea-length and floral-appliquéd cocktail numbers — which added a modern, youthful edge to the collection — to a sheer lace column gown that seemed perfectly suited to a beach wedding. Several more traditional ballgowns, which came in ivory taffeta or tiered organza and tulle, oozed romance with floral, crystal and sequin embroidery.

The collection features some styles with a convertible designer. The tulle skirt on one ensemble peels off to reveal a form-fitting column dress, and on another, two tiers of tulle can be removed for a short “ballerina-type” dress. “So she can really party on and have fun until the small hours of the night,” explains Copping.
