Vivienne Westwood has designed a collection of romantic costumes for the Vienna State Ballet that will be worn by dancers during a New Year’s concert. The Dame has proven her adeptness in creating lavish, impeccably draped feminine frocks and gowns, and the dancers’ silk and tulle wares are of this school. In fact, one costume is a riff on a look from Vivienne Westwood’s Spring 2014 collection. But it’s not all prim and proper attire, Westwood has put some of the dancers in her famed tartan kilts and bustiers.

The intermission entertainment will also include a screening of a film that puts several of the red-headed fashion dynamo’s designs front and center. The film features dancers from the company performing in a selection of Westwood creations from past and present, including some signature pieces like short tartan kilts, against the backdrop of Vienna’s Palais Liechtenstein.

The house’s creative director Austrian-born Andreas Kronthaler noted that the yearly event has been part of his holiday memories since childhood.
